On behalf of all members of the South African Society for Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (SASBCP) we wish to welcome and invite you to the 17th World Congress of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (WCP2014), to be held in Cape Town, South Africa from 13-18 July 2014. This unique international congress fosters basic and clinical pharmacological sciences. The organising committee hopes to bring the excellent science, great networking opportunities and a memorable visit with a unique African experience. The SASBCP exists since 1967, since when we held annual meetings and has grown to a national society that truly serves the pharmacological sciences in South Africa and the African continent, and has become active international role players. We have become a strong, competitive scientific community at the tip of Africa. We take pride in fostering pharmacology amongst our young scientists and to promote pharmacology in the rest of Africa, in particular via initiating and growing the 'Pharmacology for Africa' (PharfA) initiative. We chose for WCP2014 the city of Cape Town as ideal destination in South Africa. This panoramic coastal city at the foot of Table Mountain is surrounded by cultural heritage and natural beauty, heralded by many as the world's truly most beautiful city. It is a modern, vibrant city with a unique character, is technologically advanced and is an internationally renowned tourism destination.
